A powder supplement is usually a mix of ingredients with very different particle sizes and densities: protein, flavour, sweetener, acids, vitamins at milligram doses, and sometimes freeze-dried fruit. The goal of blending is simple to state and hard to achieve: every serving should contain the same amount of every ingredient.
Why it matters more for sachets
With a 1 kg pouch, a customer scoops many servings over weeks, so small local differences in the blend tend to average out. A sachet is a single serving. If the vitamin premix or the active ingredient is unevenly spread, some sachets get too much and some too little. That is a quality problem and, for declared doses, a labelling problem.
How a V-blender works
A V-blender is two cylinders joined in a V shape that rotates slowly. As it turns, the powder repeatedly splits into the two arms and falls back together. This folding action mixes the powder gently: there are no blades, so fragile particles such as freeze-dried fruit or agglomerated protein are not crushed. We blend in a 300-litre V-blender, so a full batch is mixed at once rather than in many small lots.
What makes a blend separate again
- Very different particle sizes: fine powders can sift through coarse ones during transport and vibration.
- Long transport between blending and filling: every bag move and truck trip is a chance to segregate.
- Humidity: moisture makes some powders clump and flow unevenly into the doser.
The practical answer to the second point is to blend and pack in the same place. At Whitelable, the blend goes from the V-blender to the filling line under one roof, without transport between sites.
Small doses need a premix
Ingredients dosed in milligrams, such as vitamins, minerals or potent extracts, are hard to spread evenly through a large batch. A common approach is to first mix them with part of a carrier ingredient into a premix, then add the premix to the main blend.
Dosing after blending
An even blend still has to be dosed accurately. Powders are dosed by auger fillers: a rotating screw delivers a set volume of powder into each pack, and weights are checked during the run. Sachets and small doy-packs run on our automatic line; 500 g to 2 kg pouches are filled with precision auger dosers.
Questions to ask a contract blender
- What is the batch size, and how many batches will my order need?
- Are blending and filling done in the same facility?
- How are low-dose ingredients premixed?
- Do raw materials come with certificates of analysis?
- Is every pack coded with batch number and best-before for traceability?

Frequently asked questions
What batch size does Whitelable blend?
We blend in a 300-litre V-blender, so a full batch is mixed at once.
Why use a V-blender for supplement powders?
A V-blender folds powders gently without blades, so ingredients distribute evenly without breaking down fragile particles such as freeze-dried fruit.
Do you blend and pack in the same place?
Yes. We blend, fill, seal and code under one roof in Sofia, with no transport between sites.
